The longest run

The format of our training program is to run 2-3 short runs every week, followed by a long run on Sundays. The long runs get progressively longer as we work towards the marathon. The farthest I’ve ever run in my entire life prior to marathon training was 6 miles. That means that once we broke the 6 mile barrier, every Sunday was THE LONGEST RUN OF MY LIFE. Woo hoo! Setting a new personal record every Sunday is scary and fantastic. It’s SCARETASTIC. Today we ran 12 miles…which was….THE LONGEST RUN OF MY LIFE.

Running 12 miles is no easy chore. It took over 2 hours and all the energy I had to give. There’s a distinct possibility I won’t be able to walk tomorrow, but pain is fleeting and glory is forever.

Hi Megan – I’m in your DTP class – I bet you have a bunch of new readers now.

Sunday was the longest run of my life as well – 11 miles. Setting a new personal distance record every weekend is indeed both scary as well as fantastic. Nice way to put it.
