Overheard in DC

One of my favorite parts of group training is listening to the things that people talk about to distract themselves on the run. Last night I heard a good one. The girl behind me was lamenting about a conversation she had with a “friend”. Apparently the friend’s pants were on fire.

Girl: I’m training for a marathon.

“Friend”: oh, I am a runner too. I just did the (sorry I can’t remember) race.

Girl: Oh! I volunteered there. What was your time?

“Friend”: Oh, I DNF’ed.

Girl: Hmmm….nobody DNF’ed that race. What else have you done?

“Friend”: Oh, I’ve run 3 marathons: NYC, Chicago, and Boston

Girl: (hmm…I’ve got her now!) Wow! What was your qual time for Boston?

“Friend”: uh…um…5 hours

To the non-runners- You cannot qualify for the Boston Marathon with a time of 5 hours unless you are in your 80s. (btw, if there are any 80 year olds out there running Boston, holy cow, you are amazing.)
